FGI Launches New Educational Platform: FGI University

Press Releases

FLORENCE, MA – FGI announces the official opening of FGI University, the organization’s platform for learning experiences focused on the FGI Codes/Guidelines. The platform is now live at FGIUniversity.org.

FGI University bridges the gap between the standards and practice, helping health care planning, design, and construction professionals apply the FGI Codes/Guidelines with confidence and clarity. “FGI University was created to make the FGI Codes/Guidelines more accessible and easier to apply to real-world settings,” says Heather Livingston, CEO. “With code-focused interactive courses, expert-led webinars, and on-demand resources, we aim to equip professionals with the tools they need to understand the FGI Codes/Guidelines and confidently apply them to their health and residential care projects.”

As a special introductory offer, customers will receive 15% off all educational courses for the first 30 days using the coupon code “Launch15” at checkout. This limited-time promotion is designed to help learners explore FGI University’s diverse course offerings and take advantage of continuing education opportunities at a reduced cost.

Members of the Health Guidelines Revision Committee (HGRC), the group that develops and revises the FGI Codes/Guidelines, have long been sought-after speakers at industry events. “One of the most consistent requests that I’ve heard over the past three decades is ‘Where can I get more training on the FGI Codes/Guidelines?” says John Williams, vice president of content and outreach and chair of the 2026 HGRC. “FGI University is our answer. It provides a centralized, trusted resource for those who rely on the FGI Codes/Guidelines every day.”

FGI recognized early on that the true impact of education lies not only in the content itself, but in the experience that surrounds it. This principle guided every stage of FGI University’s development, from instructional design to technology integration. “As we built our education program, our focus remained on creating a meaningful and accessible experience for all,” says Marissa Lamperis Kastrinos, director of education. “We wanted learners to feel engaged the moment they arrive on the platform, finding a seamless, intuitive experience rich with expert-led content that supports real-world application.”

FGI University offers a broad learning experience and a diverse range of educational formats designed to meet the needs of busy professionals, including:

  • Fireside chats: Topic-driven conversations exploring specific health care planning and design concepts led by thought leaders in a relaxed, conversational format
  • E-learning courses: Self-paced learning experiences designed to build skills and knowledge through interactive modules and assessments
  • On-demand webinars: Expert-led video sessions available 24/7, providing insights into key topics whenever and wherever learners choose
  • Live events: Real-time virtual sessions featuring dynamic presentations, Q&A opportunities with FGI staff and experts, and peer networking
  • Podcast courses: Audio-based lessons combining storytelling and expert interviews, featuring custom-paired episodes of Between the Lines with FGI—ideal for learning on the go, with the added benefit of continuing education credit
  • Microlearning courses: Free, bite-sized lessons focused on FGI essentials for quick learning and immediate application
  • One-on-one education: Customizable sessions available for customers seeking specialized learning on the FGI Codes/Guidelines
  • Group education: Customizable packages available for organizations seeking group learning and continuing education opportunities

FGI University serves as a complement to FGI’s subscription platform. FGIGuidelines.org remains the only authorized resource for access to the FGI Codes/Guidelines, serving as an essential resource for professionals in the field. FGI University builds on that foundation by offering targeted education that brings the FGI Codes/Guidelines to life. Together, the two platforms provide a comprehensive ecosystem for both reference and applied learning, helping customers not only access FGI’s standards but also understand and implement them with confidence.

Most courses at FGI University qualify for learning units and continuing education credits, helping professionals maintain their licensure while deepening their understanding of the FGI Codes/Guidelines. Pricing varies by course type, with a mix of free and paid options to provide accessibility for all learners. Group and institutional packages are available. Visit FGIUniversity.org for details on available courses, continuing education credits, and upcoming live events.

FGI University marks the beginning of an evolving education initiative that will continue to grow in scope and impact. By expanding its library of courses, live events, and interactive tools in the months ahead, FGI will deepen its commitment to accessible, high-quality education. Professionals and organizations interested in collaborating with FGI University, or learning more about upcoming opportunities, are invited to contact Marissa Lamperis Kastrinos at marissa@fgiguidelines.org.

About FGI

Founded in 1998, FGI is a not-for-profit corporation founded to provide leadership and continuity to the FGI Codes/Guidelines revision process. FGI functions as the coordinating entity for development of the FGI Codes/Guidelines using an interdisciplinary, consensus-based process and for provision of ancillary services that encourage and improve their application and use.

About the FGI Codes/Guidelines

FGI develops the FGI Codes (formerly known as the Guidelines), nationally recognized standards for the design and construction of hospitals, outpatient facilities, and residential care settings. Updated every four years, the FGI Codes reflect evolving concepts, capabilities, and technologies in health and residential care delivery. The FGI Codes are used widely across public and private sectors; they are adopted by states for regulatory purposes and referenced in laws, codes, rules, and regulations; applied in private-sector self-regulation and facility planning; and used to promote safe, effective design practices.

Revenue from the sale of the FGI Codes funds research and the activities of the Health Guidelines Revision Committee for future updates. The FGI Codes/Guidelines are protected by copyright and available exclusively at FGIGuidelines.org. Any websites offering the FGI Codes/Guidelines for sale without directing users to FGIGuidelines.org are not authorized or endorsed by FGI.
