Idaho, Washington, and Colorado Adopt 2022 FGI Guidelines

The 2022 Guidelines continue to make advances in adoption by states. To date, 20 states and Puerto Rico have adopted the 2022 edition. Colorado, Idaho, and Washington are the three most recent states to adopt. See below for details in how these states are using the Guidelines.

Idaho: Beginning July 1, 2025, Idaho has adopted the most current edition of the FGI Guidelines for all health care design and construction projects.

Washington: Washington has officially adopted the 2022 FGI Guidelines, with state-specific amendments for:

  • Hospitals (including hospital-based hospice care centers)
  • End-stage renal disease facilities
  • Mobile units

Colorado: Effective October 1, 2025, Colorado will begin using the 2022 FGI Guidelines for hospitals, community clinics, emergency centers, dialysis facilities, outpatient surgery facilities, birth centers, nursing homes, settings for intellectual/developmental disability, assisted living, and inpatient hospice facilities.

New Errata Sheet Released

On May 5, 2025, an erratum was published for Section 3.1-2.2.2.2 (2)(b)(ii) (Space requirements—minimum clear dimension…) of the 2022 Guidelines for Residential Health, Care, and Support Settings. It corrects the minimum clear dimension for each resident area in a multiple-resident room in a nursing home. As published, the minimum clear dimension was 9 feet 6 inches per resident area; the corrected requirement is 10 feet minimum clear dimension per resident area.

FGI’s printable errata sheets are helpful for those using paperbacks of the Guidelines for Design and Construction. For licensed users of the documents, errata are incorporated into the HTML view. Detailed information on errata can be found by clicking on the “Errata” tab on any page in the subscriber library displaying this feature.

Remember to periodically check the Errata and Addenda page on the FGI website under the “Guidelines” tab so you don’t miss corrections to errors found in the documents.
