Reimagining the ED: Ideas for Shaping the Emergency Department of the Future

More than 100 ED clinicians and design professionals and design students attended a workshop hosted by FGI and the American College of Emergency Physicians with the goal of looking for solutions to the many challenges clinicians encounter in EDs every day. The participants worked together to envision how design could be harnessed to improve emergency department flow and functionality and correct issues that inhibit staff effectiveness or interfere with the delivery of patient care. Their solutions are summarized in this white paper with the hope that health care organizations and designers can apply them to address operational and design problems in the field.
