ABOUT FGI:  

Founded in 1998, the Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to developing codes and guidance for health and residential care facilities. We publish the FGI Guidelines for Design and Construction documents, used for planning, design, and construction of hospitals, outpatient facilities, and residential care and support facilities. We lead this effort by overseeing, maintaining, and continuous improvements to the entire four-year revision process, supporting research, and creating (except for EDAC guides) technical resources. All of these drive the development of safe and effective health care built environments. FGI partners with numerous organizations to develop practical, evidence-informed publications. 

About the Role: 

We are seeking a tech-savvy, detail-oriented, compassionate, and service-oriented Customer Care (volunteer) to help us provide exceptional support to our community. In this role, you will be the first point of contact for individuals seeking assistance, information, or guidance. This role is 100% email- and chat-based. We are seeking a tech-savvy and detail-oriented Digital Content Coordinator (volunteer) to help maintain and enhance our websites and assist with other technical needs. The person in this role will create and update digital content to supplement contracted web development services. It is ideal for someone with a passion for the online space and who enjoys connecting the dots for people, whether it be web design and content management, or in new platforms you haven’t had the opportunity to geek out on yet. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our online presence is engaging, up-to-date, and aligned with our mission. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain marketable experience and contribute to the creation of high quality and safe environments for all people who access health care.

We are seeking a creative and dynamic Copywriter (volunteer) to support our efforts in writing and editing compelling copy for our diverse audiences of professionals in the health care design industry. The ideal candidate has the ability to translate complex technical information into appealing brand and product stories. We have many exciting new products launching soon and the individual in this role will be creating engaging content to build excitement about our brand and promote our mission. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in storytelling, brand communication, and digital marketing in a mission-driven nonprofit.

Position Overview: 

We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and creative Lead Instructional Designer to develop e-learning materials for our diverse audience of professionals in the health care design industry.  

As part of the education team, you will contribute to the development of digital content for instructor-led training (ILTs), multi-media interactive e-learning courses, and educational resources that align with our organizational goals.  

As the Lead Instructional Designer for the volunteer team, you will also partner with the volunteer team by providing an added layer of mentorship and support towards successful project completion. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain and expand their experience in instructional design and educational content creation in a non-profit setting. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Learning & Development Content Creation: 
  • • Develop engaging and educational materials (e.g., e-learning modules, lesson plans, and worksheets) for our strategic education program. 
  • • Design and edit e-learning content for our training programs, instructional guides, and online courses. 
  • • Ensure content is clear, concise, engaging, and aligned with the needs of diverse learners. 

  1. Research & Analysis: 
  • • Analyze feedback from program participants to continuously improve and update educational materials. 
  • • Engage with industry professionals and FGI staff to indentify educational needs. 

  1. Collaboration: 
  • • Work closely with Education Consultant and Learning & Development volunteer team to ensure content meets organizational needs, goals, and timelines. 
  • • Partner with the volunteer team by providing an added layer of mentorship and support towards successful project completion.  
  • • Gain insight from stakeholders within FGI (including the CEO, VP of Content and Outreach, Managing Editor, and Associate Editors) on content needs.  
  • • Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute ideas for new learning initiatives. 

  1. Multimedia Development: 
  • • Create and edit multimedia elements such as videos, audio recordings, and interactive tools to enhance learning experiences. 
  • • Assist in developing digital tools or interactive elements (e.g., quizzes, simulations) to engage learners.

  1. Content Review & Evaluation: 
  • • Review and test learning materials for quality, usability, and effectiveness. 
  • • Gather feedback from learners and FGI staff to ensure continuous improvement. 

Qualifications: 

  • Essential Qualifications: 
  • • Previous experience in content creation, instructional design, or a related field (volunteer or professional). 
  • • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments. 
  • • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint. 
  • • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Dropbox.  
  • • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

  • • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and/or e-learning software (e.g., Articulate, Captivate) is a plus.
