AIA Releases Guidance on Identifying Alternate Sites for COVID-19 Pandemic
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) assembled a task force to quickly develop a tool for assessing alternate care sites for use during the COVID-19 pandemic. The resulting checklist will help public officials and others without health care facility design expertise identify suitable sites for patient care. Two 2022 FGI Health Guidelines Revision Committee members—Kirsten Waltz, AIA, EDAC, ACHA, LEED AP, and Ellen Taylor, PhD, AIA, MBA, EDAC—participated on the task force.
Below, you can download the checklist and an accompanying white paper titled “Alternate Care Sites: Addressing capacity, safety, and risk challenges for our nation’s hospitals during a public health pandemic response.” Read the AIA press release about this effort here.
The AIA has also launched an effort to collect information about alternate sites for provision of health care services. To access this information or submit your project, visit this page on the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health website.
